Typhoid vaccines for flood victims

All flood victims now staying at welfare camps, are to be vaccinated against typhoid, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the Health Ministry has already made arrangement to control any type of epidemic in welfare camps and protect flood victims.

The Ministry's Epidemiology Unit is ready to face any possible outbreak of epidemic at any time. The Ministry has also made arrangements to obtain daily reports on the situation in welfare camps.

The reports are to be prepared after 4.30 pm every day. The district reports will reach the Ministry by 8.00 pm.

According to the data, the Ministry will ensure an uninterrupted supply of drugs and human resources to welfare camps, he said.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena instructed health officials to upgrade health facilities given to flood victims. Progress review meetings are to be conducted daily.

The decision was taken during a meeting held in Trincomalee with the participation of Provincial Health authorities and many others, he added.
