Bus mishap injures 34

At least 34 apparel factory workers were injured when the bus they were travelling fell into a stream along the Uhana-Himidurawa main road in Ampara around 6.00 am yesterday, police said.

The injured, 31 males and three females, were admitted to the Ampara General Hospital. According to hospital authorities two passengers had their arms broken while the others had received minor injuries. Uhana police sources said that the bus driver had tried to avoid a motorcyclist heading from the opposite direction. The bus had then skidded due to the heavy rain and plunged into the stream.
