Carlton Super Sports Festival:

Dinesh and Aravind steal the limelight

Carlton Super Sports Festival 2011 concluded at Tissamaharama Carlton Racing Track yesterday on a grand scale with motor cars and motor cross events together with the Shooting Finals.

Dinesh Deheragoda dominated the motor cars category winning two races including the super motor and PK Aravind from India showed his excellent riding skills by wining two races in the motorcycle racing event.

Sri Lanka Air Force won many awards, in pistol shooting by winning championship in the hand gun Standard Division and in the teams open event.

Anusha Prasadika of Sri Lanka Air Force won the Ladies Junior Category while Haritha Pilapitiya of Hill Country Sports Club won the boys’ event.

Both motor cars and motor cycle races gave the enthusiastic spectators an exciting experience. A few hours full of action by the drivers and riders made the event a huge success.

Well-known drivers like Dinesh Deheragoda, Upuwan Serasinhe and Aravinda Premadasa battled in the races to defend their titles. In motor bike races there was a tough tussle between Gayan Sandaruwan and KP Aravind.

The ‘kids upto 50 cc’ race and ‘racing upto 85 cc Under 16’ were seen as preparation of younger generation to create future champions by most spectators. The parachute exhibition jump from Sri Lanka Air Force parachute team made the fans more surprised. Despite of the drizzle yesterday thousands gathered to Carlton Racing Track. Yesterday’s events were organized by ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ Organization and conducted by Sri Lanka Racing Association.

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa gave away the trophies and awards at the end of the races.

Tharunyata Hetak Vice President Yoshitha Rajapaksa gave his active contribution by participating in two main events and ultimately winning them. He won the Nissan March Car race and also won the first place in Shot Gun Standard Division in Pistol Shooting.
