Robbers raid temple

A gang of robbers had entered the Nikaweratiya Niyadawane Temple and robbed two pairs of tusks, a gold statue, four bronze statues, and two marble statues, all worth Rs 800,000 Monday.

They had entered the temple masquerading as policemen on the pretext of searching them after threating the chief incumbent of the temple by brandishing weapons.

They Robbed these valuable items worth Rs 8, lakhs Nikaweratiya police said.

According to the police information the gang leader had ben released from prison recently.

Nikaweratiya police are investigating.
