Sandalwood felling gang arrested

This gang had been engaged in the mass scale felling of sandalwood trees in the Mailapitiya, Kapuliyedda, Haragama, Polewa, Sinharagama and Dambawela jungles, police investigations revealed.

A three-wheeler deployed for the business was also taken into police custody.

The police said that this gang were reported to be responsible for burglary of several business places and houses and looted hundreds of thousands of rupees worth items. Thalathuoya OIC Chief Police Inspector Karunaratne Gammanpila and several police officers are conducting investigations on the instructions of Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne.
