‘Ensure massive victory for Govt’

Good Governance and Infrastructure Development Senior Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka requested the people to rally round the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and its constituent parties and ensure a massive victory for the Government at the forthcoming Local Government elections.

The Senior Minister was speaking at the Horana SLFP Balamandalaya meeting on Saturday.

He said Local Government elections should not be regarded as a General election as the results show the personal relationship and connection between the politicians and the people.

”Therefore, those contesting the Local Government polls should win the trust and confidence of the voters. They should cultivate a close relationship with the people in order to win their trust,” Senior Minister Wickramanayaka said.

He said the country should increase production. The people should also grow vegetables and whatever items they can. This would help control the cost of living.

He said the present Government had initiated many development projects like highways, electricity, aviation and irrigation spending colossal sums of money.

”The people will reap the benefits of these massive development projects in the future,” he said.

He said the Opposition UNP recently talks about forming a United front, but we can’t see any unity in their leadership.

”The leadership of a political party should be exemplary and strong if it is to win the people’s trust.

Kalutara District MP Vidura Wickramanayaka, Ven Padukke Pannawasa Thera and Horana SLFP Central Committee Secretary Asoka Ranatunga also spoke.
