Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratna informed families of fishermen who disappeared on board the fishing vessel Sankara Putha 02 that the missing were found and they are safe in Indonesia.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Rajitha Senaratna meeting family members of the missing fishermen.

Senaratna met the family members in Balapitiya at the Fisheries Conference held in Galle.

The multiday fishing vessel Sankara Putha 02 left for fishing from the Southern seas with five fishermen on board.

They were reported missing from November 2 last year.

They were rescued by the Indonesian Navy following a co-ordinated effort by the Sri Lankan Government.

Minister Senaratna thanked the Indonesian Government for helping the Sri Lankan Government to rescue the fishermen. The Indonesian Government launched an air-sea rescue operation to locate the fishermen in response to the Sri Lankan Government informing them of the situation.
