Displaced youth as masons

The National Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) of the Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry and the Holsim Institute, under an MoU have trained 504 displaced youths in the North as masons.

The training sessions were held in Vavuniya, Maradamadu camp with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army. Under this program 1,000 youths in the North are to be trained as masons.

A function to issue these youths with the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Grade II certificates will be held in Vavuniya today under the patronage of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera.

Northern Province Governor, Vavuniya District Secretary, officers of the Holsim Institute, Canada World University and GTZ will participate.

Canada World University provides them with required sets of tools for the profession.
