Criminal case against Army officer
The case of criminal intimidation against an Army officer who had
allegedly threatened an Attorney-at-Law and the plaintiff of a civil
case, a senior judicial officer on the phone on the date where summons
were served for filing a civil case in the District Court of Mt Lavinia
against his mother-in-law was taken up for further trial on Friday
January 21 before Mt Lavinia Additional Magistrate Chrysanthi Dodangoda.
The accused in this case is a Major of the Sri Lanka Army, residing
at Ratmalana.
The accused is charged with criminal intimidation of the lawyer who
filed the civil case on behalf of the plaintiff, in the case who is a
senior judicial officer.
Sub Inspector Siripala of the Mt Lavinia Police, gave evidence before
the Additional Magistrate on the investigations conducted by him into
the incident.
A complaint made to the Military Police too was marked in evidence.
Senior State Counsel Dilan Ratnayake, conducted the prosecution on
behalf of the Attorney-General while Attorney-at-Law Mary Dickman
appeared for the defence.
Further trial was put off for April 1, 2011 by the Additional
Magistrate.
