A’pura prison fast continues

Prisoners on top of the roof

The protest and the fast campaign at the Anuradhapura Prison continued for the third day as around 65 inmates were on top of the roof of the prison’s main building yesterday morning too.

The inmates who were not in their usual white uniforms were on top of the roof carrying white flags. The reason for the protest is still not officially known.

Meanwhile, a Police Special Task Force was deployed opposite the prison along the Colombo-Anuradhapura main road.Around 200 family members of the inmates were sitting along the Colombo-Anuradhapura main road claiming information of their relatives in prison.

The transport on the main road came to a complete standstill as the main road was closed. A clash between inmates and prison jailors prior on Monday resulted in on death.

Twenty one persons were injured including eight jailors.
