Boom in mobile phones sales
Sri Lanka’s overall performance in mobile phone sales has shown a
steady growth over the past years.
The reduction in import taxes has resulted in the increase in mobile
phone imports during the past two months.
“There is a tremendous improvement in the mobile sales market and the
industry will grow further compared to last year,” Softlogic
Communications Director and CEO Samantha Rajapaksa told Daily News
Business.
He said November and December last year has showed a significant
growth in mobile phone sales.
The growth last year was over 60 to 70 percent compared to the 2009
corresponding period. The company’s key focus is to expand the care
network of the company. The company has ventured into Jaffna and is
expecting to enhance the care network further in the newly liberated
areas. More brands coming into the market has created a healthy
competition and it is encouraging.
The company sustained a commendable growth by introducing Nokia
mobile phones into the Sri Lankan market. “Our consumers are very price
conscious and the number of low and medium price level mobile phone
sales have shown an increase of 100 percent during last year. The sales
of smart phones also indicated a remarkable growth,” Rajapaksa said.
