Illicit tree felling:

Cops after cop

Several Police teams have been deployed to track down a Police Inspector allegedly involved in the illicit felling of valuable trees.

The alleged felling of trees took place at the Megodakulugamuwa Estate belonging to the Sri Dalada Maligawa and selling the timber to a saw mill at Dambarawa, Kundasale. The fraud came to light following a complaint made to the Peradeniya Police by the Lands Secretary of the Maligawa on the direction of the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara.

Following the complaint Police recovered a stock of Jak, Banyan and Gini Sapu logs valued at nearly Rs 200,000 from a saw mill at Dambarawa. Police are investigating.
