Electrification projects to be commissioned

Power and Energy Ministry will commission 121 electrification
projects to fall in line with the Moneragala district Deyata Kirula
exhibition at a cost of Rs 716 million, Power and Energy Minister Patali
Champika Ranawaka said. There 121 projects are being carried out under
three mega scale electrification programs "Vidulamu Sri Lanka
Moneragala", "Rural Electrification Project 4" and "Accelerated
Electrification Project".
Under the Vidulamu Sri Lanka Moneragala program, 90 electrification
projects are being carried out at a cost of Rs 270 million. Of the 90
projects 77 projects have already been completed while the remaining
projects are near completion. More than 2,144 families will benefit by
this.
In accordance with the "Rural Electrification Project 4", 9
electrification projects have already been carried out. The Government
has allocated Rs 97 million for these 9 projects which benefit 603
families. Under Accelerated Rural Electrification Program, 22 projects
are being carried out at a cost of Rs 348 million. According to the
Power and Energy Ministry statistics, more than 2,380 families will be
benefited from the program. Out of the 22 projects, 14 projects have
already been completed while the others have also exceeded 80 percent of
its work.
Accordingly, electricity connection will not be a dream any more for
5,727 families in the Moneragala District.
