collection of short stories by Prabhath Jayasinghe titled Vayamba Diga
Vasiyekuge Dina Satahan will be launched at the Library Services Board
Auditorium on January 20 at 3.30 pm. The session will be chaired by
Professor Sarath Wijesuriya and feature talks by two prominent scholars.
Dr Liyanage Amarakeerthi will deliver the keynote address on the theme
‘Alternative Modes of Representation and Modern Short Story: A
Comparative Approach to Fiction’. Dr Nirmal Ranjith
Devasiri’s address will follow. The book comprises seven stories
focusing on various moments and movements of the contemporary
socio-political process.

Saha Kedapatha
Liyanage Amarakeerthi’s new book of essays on literary and cultural
criticism, Pahana Saha Kedapatha, will be launched at Wijesooriya
Bookshop, Punchi Borella, on January 21 at 10 am. The author will be
reading extracts from the book. A discussion will follow.
This is the third book in literary studies by the author. His Amuthu
Kathawa and Sahrada Sakshiya were able to break new grounds in modern
Sinhala literary criticism. He is also the author of award-winning
novel, Atawaka Putthu. All are invited to the book launch.
Duvili Minisa discourse
The collection of Sinhala poems by Sunanda Karunaratna titled Duvili
Minisa will be the subject of the discourse scheduled to take place on
January 21 at Sri Lanka Press Council.
The discourse comes under the project Sannivedana Katikava, sponsored
by the Diploma students of the Course in Journalism and Communication
from 4 to 6 pm at the Press Council premises in Horton Place, Colombo.
Wimalaweera honoured
Seasoned writer and lyricist Sunil Wimalaweera was awarded the
‘Kalakeerthi Lankaputhra’ honorary title by the Srimath Anagarika
Dharmapala Humanitarian Foundation which celebrated its 40th anniversary
recently. |
