To be a leading figure in education sector a school would have to
excel not only in academic but also in extra-curricular activities which
is sine quo non for the development of personalities.
Devi Balika College, a school which strikes a chord regarding
excellent achievements in academic activities cum extra-curricular
activities, did recently add more value to their prestigious name. It is
due to their emergence as winners of female classical singing category
(senior) in the all island music competitions recently held.
“This competition is so competitive. No group of students gave in to
become second to anyone. They are the very spirit of students who know
music perfectly. So our students face this make or break presence to
this competition. Our students practised in large scale even though the
period was just last vacation.” said Shiromi Weerasinghe, a teacher in
her full contribution to steer this group of Devians to victory.
“We must thank our teachers who dedicated the vacation on behalf of
our victory. We went to their places for practice. So it was a great
help from them,” explained Amandya Uthpali, a Devi member of the group.
Commenting on the victory her students brought for the glory of the
school Devi Principal W D P K Samarasinghe said: “Our students are too
studious and in the past the achievements we gained in extracurricular
activities were not that much satisfactory. But now we have fathomed our
students how to balance education with extra-curricular activities. So
this victory is proof that our students will perform well in extra
curricular activities and they will show colours in the field as in
academic activities. We are always in the top of the exam results.
Likewise, I’m sure our daughters would go ahead in the fields such as
music, dancing and sports.” She concluded.
