Academics plan strategy

The proposed Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Sri
Lanka 2011- 2015 evolved with the contribution of experts in the field
is capable of guiding the country to become a middle income nation by
2015, said Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) President Prof A K W
Jayawardena.
He observed that an effective national system of innovation suitable
to the country is introduced by this strategy with the collaboration of
academia, industrial sector and the government.
He pointed out that local universities have a significant role to
achieve the goals mentioned in this strategic plan. University and
private sector partnership can lead to productive results and towards
this end, Moratuwa University has already initiated many measures to
work in collaboration with the private sector, he added.
He said this while addressing a ceremony held at Moratuwa University
organized by the Engineering Faculty Management of Technology Department
last Tuesday.
Addressing the ceremony, Moratuwa University's Technology Department
Engineering Faculty Head Dr Chandana Perera said as majority of business
organizations are engaged in technology driven businesses today, it is
important to sharpen technology management skills among the managers.
As technology has become an important tool for national growth,
proper management of technology has become a vital national requirement.
Therefore we need to create business managers who are capable of taking
up that challenge, he said.
