Ishara clinches Triple Crown

Three times National Women’s Table Tennis Champion Ishara Madurangi (Sri Lanka Air Force) claimed the title for the fourth time when she beat Nuwani Navodya (Dharmasoka, Ambalangoda) in the open women’s singles final during the 64th National Table Tennis Championships 2010, worked out at the S Thomas’ Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia on January 7 and 8.

Ishara won a triple crown, winning single, double and mixed double championships at the tournament. Ishara with Mavulee Peiris beat Ruhansi Wijekoon and Srimali Wimalarathne (Sri Lanka Air Force) in the women’s doubles while overcoming Indika Prasad (Sri Lanka Navy) and Deepika Rodrigo ( Lake House Sports Club) with Rohan Sirisena in the mixed double event.

Earlier Ishara won the Women’s Singles Title in 2004, 2008 and 2009.

Rohan Sirisena (SL Air Force) beat Dinesh Deshappriya (Sri Lanka Navy) to clinch the Men’s Championship in the open men’s singles final.

Former Sri Lanka TT Board of Control President P N Pestonjee and the Senior Director Abans Ltd, was the Chief guest and the former President of the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association Major General Kamal Fernando was the guest of honour and gave away the trophies.
