Bus strike, a failure

Transport Minister Kumara Welgama with commuters at the Central Bus Stand at Fort

Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said that the proposed strike by several private bus societies from midnight on Monday had become an utter failure.

The Minister toured several places where the strike called by the societies was to be implemented and inspected the transport arrangements there. Minister Welgama was quite satisfied with the transport arrangements that had been made in those bus routes.

The Minister had taken action to face the threat of strike called by private bus owners.

He has given instructions to the authorities to take action to ensure a normal transport service if the private bus owners launched their strike.

Minister Welgama said he would face any strike threats in the future as well to enable the commuters to get a normal transport facility.
