The resettlement program of 360 families who had been displaced due
to the war, took place yesterday at Osmaniya College Jaffna under the
patronage of Jaffna Government Agent Emelda Sukumar.
The Muslim community who were forced to leave their original lands in
1990 were registered officially and were resettled in Velanei,
Chavakachcheri and Jaffna.
The program was organized by Jaffna Kilinochchi Muslim Federation
(JKMF) in conjunction with the Jaffna District Secretariat.
People who lived in Puttalam, Palavi, Ratmalyaya, Mattakkuliya and
Chilaw were given their home lands with a Rs 50,000 compensation for
each family.
In addition, they were to be given dry rations for six months by the
Government.
The relevant divisional secretariats will give them the necessary
infrastructure facilities according to the Jaffna GA.
The program at Osmaniya College also gave the community an
opportunity to discuss their problems with the administrative officials.
A mobile service was carried out to solve other matters of the resettled
community.
