Funds allocated for tanks

Rs 400 million has been allocated to construct 10 tanks by the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation to reduce floods in Colombo and Gampaha districts.

According to General Manager, Land Reclamation and Development Syama Gunawardene, work on Pelawatte, Talawatugoda, Madiwela and Water's Edge tanks are underway and will be completed by June 2011.

In addition work on Narahenpita, Piliyandala and Peliyagoda will also commence.

The Peliyagoda tank would prevent floods in the Gampaha district which was an area affected by the torrential rains recently.
