Sanitary labourers now health assistants

The Government has changed the title of sanitary labourers as health assistants from January on the request of the SLFP Health Services Union.

A special committee appointed by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena recently recommended the alternation of the job title considering various social issues. The SLFP Health Services Union led by Director General of President's Trade Union Affairs Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra said sanitary labourers are always looked down upon by the society and they should receive due respect from the society.
