The one year extension given to Local Government
Authorities on April 1, 2010 was curtailed at midnight yesterday
ending terms of office. The curtailment was done by Local Government
and Provincial Councils Minister A L M Athaulla issuing a special
gazette notification in term of the powers vested in him.

Over 10,000 SLFP applications for LG polls
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has so far
received over 10,000 applications from party members to contest in
the upcoming Local Government Election. This is the highest number
of applications ever received in history for a local Government
Election, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.
