A-6 road stretch needs overhaul

The stretch of the Ambepussa Trincomalee A-6 road from Ambepussa to Dambulla (106kms) and Kanthale to Trincomalee (45kms) has been badly damaged due to the recent rains and floods. Ibbagamuwa, Gokarella, Abanpola and Melsiripura areas are worst affected.

The total length of this road is 161 kms. According to Road Development Authority sources 10 kms from Habarana to Kantale had been renovated. Around 150 lorries are transporting sand on this road daily. A large number of heavy vehicles travelling on the road has been the main cause for this damage.

A source from the Road Development Authority when contacted said that they have planned to completely renovate this road under a World Bank Project in the near future. Until that project is commenced the North Western Province, Road Development Authority has effected some repair work between Kurunegala and Melsiripura to overcome this situation.
