Inquiries into tank pollution

Inquiries have begun with regard to the large scale water pollution taking place at the Nuwarawewa and Tisawewa reservoirs which supply drinking water facilities to the residents in Anuradhapura and the suburbs.

Secretary to the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management Ivan Silva and the Irrigation Director General Dr G G A Godaliyedda accompanied by a team of high ranking officials inspected the Nuwarawewa Tank reserve including the tank bed for unwarranted encroachments and unauthorised constructions.

Earlier the public organisations and Government officials have brought to the notice of the Anuradhapura District Agriculture Committee that garbage and animal excreta are being disposed from the tourist hotels, residencies and cattle shed's situated in the area were mixing with the Waters of Nuwarawewa.
