Senior Ministers:

Government's driving force

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said the responsibility of the senior Ministers is to lead the country towards its development goals.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while participating at a function held at Senior Ministers' office complex in Colpetty where Senior Ministers Prof Tissa Vitharana and Athauda Senaviratne started work yesterday.

The Premier said, Senior Ministers are not limited only to the name but they are the pioneering force to lead the country and their knowledge and experience would be a catalyst for other Ministries in discharging their entrusted tasks.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed Senior Ministers with a wide perspective to obtain their service for the motherland's progress but not to confine them to a designation, the Prime Minister added.

Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary, Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and some Ministers were also present.
