The Sri Lanka Army has launched an operation to arrest more than 50,000 deserters islandwide.

Military spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala said a comprehensive vocational training program is in place for the deserters once they are arrested.

He said that these deserters would be employed after training. Major General Medawala said the army deserters can surrender to their respective regimental headquarters though a specific period has not been declared for the general amnesty of the army deserters.
