Suspect granted bail

Avissawella High Court Judge Devika de Livera Tennakoon granted bail
for a suspect, a businessman from Malabe, who had been remanded in
connection with the possession of a T56, two air guns and ammunition.
The Judge directed suspect Udaya Mayadunne to furnish bail in a sum
of Rs 30,000 with two sureties of Rs 500,000 each. He was further
directed to appear before the Athurugiriya Police station the last week
of every month.
Earlier, the suspect arrested by Athurugiriya Police and produced
before Kaduwela Magistrate Sujatha Alahapperuma and remanded as the
Magistrate Court had no jurisdiction to grant bail.
Later, Senior Counsel for the suspect Senior Attorney Upali Senaratne
made an application before the High Court and moved Court to grant bail
for his client.
Senior Attorney Senaratne in his submissions said the suspect never
knew about this offence till he was arrested at his residence.
The Judge directed the suspect not to violate the bail conditions.
