Two nabbed with 25 fake notes

Madampe Police arrested two persons with 25 counterfeit notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 at Madampe Sunday.

Police first arrested a private intercity bus driver Sunday morning with eight counterfeit notes at his residence in Madampe. They later arrested another person from the same area on Sunday night with another 11 counterfeit notes.

The Police said two persons each with three Rs 1,000 counterfeit notes had lodged complaints stating that they were given three fake notes by a private intercity bus driver.

The two persons said they had obtained the money from the bus driver at an interest of one percent per day. Police added that the bus driver was engaged in a money lending for a long period.

The Police arrested the driver following to two complaints.

The Police seized eight counterfeit notes hidden in his house and later arrested another person the same night.

The Police also added that those fake notes have been circulated at a gambling den in the area.

It is alleged that the people had borrowed money from the bus driver for gambling. Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said that the suspect was a resident of Dematapitiya, Kotavehera in the Madampe Police division.

A Police team led by Madamape Police OIC IP H J M D Indrajith is conducting investigations to find out from where these persons had obtained the fake notes and where they were printed.
