Communicable diseases account for nearly 400 deaths per day says Anti
Renal Campaign Kandy Branch Vice Chairman and former Medical Officer at
Peradeniya University Dr H M Epa.
Addressing the health sector progress review meeting in the District
Co-ordinating Committee at the Kandy Divisional Secretariat office she
further said that there were 4 million and 1.5 million people suffering
from two main non-communicable diseases, high blood pressure and
diabetes respectively.
Dr Epa emphasized that fast and artificial food leads to such
conditions. To protect the future generation from these diseases fast
and instant food must be boycotted.
She also expressed her disapproval on some parents’ negligence of
their children’s necessities.
Dr Epa said that it is vital to give those engaged in sports a
balanced diet. Excessive amount of salt, sugar and oil leads to many
illnesses.
She also pointed out the importance of a good mentality. Drinking 10
or 12 glasses of water is good for the body, she said.
Dr Epa also emphasized the importance of doing exercises to avoid
obesity. |
