GM granted bail

Additional Colombo Magistrate Mahee Wijeweera granted bail to a general manager and a store keeper of a Multinational Company. The duo were in remand in connection with Criminal Misappropriation and Criminal Breach of Trust in respect of the export of a consignment of cinnamon valued at Rs 58 million.

The Magistrate ordered the two suspects to furnish cash or certified bail in a sum of Rs. two million and surety bond of Rs. one million each. The two suspects were directed to appear before the CID on every first and third Sundays between 9 am and 12 noon. The two suspects’ passports also had been impounded on an application by the CID.

President’s Counsel Anil Silva and Senior Attorney Nalinda Indatissa appeared for the two suspects. Senior Attorney Upali Gooneratne watched the interests of the aggrieved party, the Company.

The Criminal Investigation Department appeared for the prosecution.
