South Asian Beach Games gets off the ground
The inaugural South Asian Beach Games 2011 is scheduled to be held in
Sri Lanka in Hambantota. The arrangements are under way to conduct the
events in August.
As a first step in organizing the Games two Working Committee and
Organizing Committee and 10 sub Committees were given the task of
planning the Games.
The working Committee will be headed by Sports Minister Mahindananda
Aluthgamage while the Organizing Committee is headed by the Foreign
Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera.
These decisions were taken at the first meeting held last Saturday at
a meeting attended by National Olympic Committee Chairman Hemasiri
Fernando, member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa and other heads of Sports
governing bodies.
The events to be conducted during the games has yet to be finalized
but the following disciplines beach volleyball, swimming, beach
handball, beach kabaddi, netball, wind surfing, rugger, body building,
football and cricket are listed for the games. |
