Alleged fertilizer fraud:

Bail for two suspects

The two suspects held in connection with an alleged fraud involving 5,591 metric tons of subsidized fertilizer meant for distribution among farmers in Anuradhapura District were released on Rs 2 million cash and Rs 100,000 personal bail each and two sureties who should be executive grade public servants by Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Darshika Wimalasiri yesterday.

This follows an order issued by Anuradhapura High Court Judge M Wijesundera that the suspects be released on suitable bail conditions determined by the Magistrate Court.

The Magistrate releasing the suspects on bail also ordered them to surrender their passports to Court and report to the CID headquarters in Colombo every Sunday at 9 am.
