New rice flour product launched
A new rice flour product had been launched in the market named "Suwaposha"
as a possible solution for malnutrition in Sri Lanka. The flour is made
out of red rice, soya beans and green gram.
Various nutritious foods can be prepared from rice flour. This will
be a good additional food item for children, pregnant mothers and breast
feeding mothers, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said. The
event took place at the Agriculture Ministry in the presence of First
Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa Wednesday. Suwaposha packs were distributed
among children and pregnant mothers by the First Lady.
The Minister addressing the event pointed out that it is time to shun
foods that are not nutritious and go back to our traditional food system
which made all our ancestors healthy and strong. The Minister added that
the whole nation has been transformed into a sick nation due to
unhealthy food patterns. In order to overcome this everyone should join
hands together.
"Everyone should go out to the fields and start cultivating. The
farmers should be motivated so that they will be proud that they are
performing a big service to the country. |
