Under the Gama Neguma rural economic development program of the
Economic Development Ministry, 32,526 rural economic development
projects have been completed this year in 10,567 Grama Niladari
Divisions throughout the country.
According to Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa
Abeywardhana, the Government has allocated Rs 13,390.40 million for
these 32,526 projects.
Of these Gama Neguma projects, the highest number of 4,917 project
have been carried out in the Gampaha district, while 4,570 projects have
been done in the Kurunegala district. According to statistics of the
Economic Development Ministry, 453 projects have been carried out in the
Northern and the Eastern provinces at a cost of Rs 326.99 million.
Of the 453 projects, 94 have been carried out in the Jaffna district
while 71 projects have been done in Kilinochchi and 19 in the
Mullaithivu districts.
In addition, 155 projects have been carried out in the Mannar
district and 114 in the Vavuniya district.
Besides, 1,116 Gama Neguma projects have been carried out in
Trincomalee, Batticaloa and the Ampara districts at a cost of Rs 784.44
million, Deputy Minister Abeywardhana said.
Under the Gama Neguma initiatives, more rural economic development
projects will be carried out by the Economic Development Ministry next
year, the Deputy Minister added. |
