Beaten to death

A man (55) was beaten to death by an iron bar at Marathuvil Kodikamam.

The deceased is identified as Velu Sinnathamby.

The Kodikamam police are investigating.

Journalists condole

The North Sri Lanka Journalists Association has passed a resolution expressing their deep grief and sympathies at the death of late David Raju the former Acting Chief Editor Virakesari and Consultant Thinakural newspaper.

The resolution states that the passing away of David Raju is an irreparable loss to the media and a personal calamity to the journalists in the North.

He has been the guide and friend of Northern journalists. Till his death he had been the anchor and counsel of the budding journalists.

Burglary

Burglars broke into a house at Arukal Madam, Jaffna and after confining the inmates of the house into a room ransacked the whole house and burgled gold jewellery worth Rs 400,000.

As it was raining neighbours were unaware of the incident.

Jaffna police are investigating.
