The suspects had hired the van on the pretext that they had a patient
at Jayewardenepura Hospital, leaving it after treatment, and needed to
be brought back home.
The driver had instinctively felt that his bogus passengers were
trying to rob his van when he was manhandled and forced to pullover at a
lonely place.
At this point the driver had ran off with the van-key, shouting for
help.
Soon the villagers had gathered there, caught the suspects and handed
them over to the police who had rushed to the scene.
Inquiries revealed that the suspects had earlier robbed a
three-wheeler and a motorcycle which were recovered by the police after
questioning the suspects.
Police said that the suspects had been involved in several
gold-chain-snatching robberies too.
Anguruwatota OIC Ajith Kumara carried out the raid with a group of
policemen. The suspects were produced before Horana Magistrate and were
remanded. |
