Seven persons who were digging a gem pit at Kirinda, Matara suffered
a mishap when the pit collapsed and they were virtually buried under a
huge mound of earth.
Villagers with the support of Hakmana Police and Army rescued all
workers.
One worker is said to be in a critical condition. The people in the
vicinity had removed part of earth mound leaving a breathing space for
them.
The Police and the Army personnel who arrived at the scene later
rescued those trapped in the pit by removing earth using a backhoe. |
