Religious ceremonies at Kandy

Sri Lanka Navy’s 60th anniversary was celebrated with religious ceremonies held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on December 14 with Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, senior Naval officers, sailors and their family members in attendance.

Arriving at the sacred city of Kandy Tuesday, Navy Commander called on the Mahanayakes of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters. Thereafter, he proceeded to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic to attend to religious ceremonies. The ceremonies held in keeping with religious traditions commenced with a Pahan Pooja followed by a Gilanpasa Pooja invoking the blessings of the Triple Gem on the Navy which sets off on its voyage towards its 61st year of serving the Motherland.

Sri Lanka Navy celebrated its 60th anniversary on December 9 with a wide array of religious and social functions conducted to mark the historical occasion. Many naval ceremonies were held in keeping with the traditions and customs of the Navy.
