Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
The postponing of the final examinations for teachers who underwent
training at Teacher Training Colleges and Distance Teacher Training
Programs has caused difficulties for around 10,000 teachers, point out
several Teachers' Trade Unions.
Earlier, the final examinations were scheduled to be held between
December 27 to 29 countrywide. More than 10,000 teachers who have been
trained in seven Teacher Training Colleges and 44 Distance Teacher
Training Centres were to sit the final examinations.
Trade Unions say that the teachers have to put up in hostels and
private boarding places until the final examinations are held.
Moreover teacher TUs point out that, the academic activities for the
new year at Teacher Training Colleges will be delayed due to the
postponed exams.
Examinations Department sources said that the final examination had
to be postponed to January 15 due to the busy schedule at the
Examinations Department.
The Examinations Department is engaging in conducting G.C.E. Ordinary
Level Examination, reevaluation of Advanced Level answer scripts, final
examination of Pirivena and many more examination related activities.
Besides the officials who are engaging in examination duties may be on
leave during the coming festive season.
Considering this situation the final examination had to be postponed
and it will be held on January 15 islandwide. The examination will
continue for three days.
