Convention puts UNP split in limelight

The special convention of the UNP held recently has clearly split the party into two rather than uniting it as claimed by the Party. This is clearly evident from the two separate press conferences given by the Ranil and Sajith groups following the convention, Mass Media and Communication Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said. The Minister said the UNP clearly displayed the division in it to the country when two separate press briefings were given by these two groups at the Opposition Leaders Office and at the Wellawatta Sapphire Hotel.

The division within the UNP had now come into the open without any signs of a possible unity.

Minister Rambukwella also denounced the manner in which the UNP leadership and their supporters disgraced the national anthem which was played by resorting to singing and dancing.
