Infant’s body found in labour room drain

Minor employees attached to the Nawalapaitiya base hospital who tried
to clear a blockage in the sewer line of the hospital maternity labour
room found a body of a baby boy clogged inside the sewer, yesterday.
Hospital sources said the body was that of a six to seven month old
boy. Nawalapitiya Acting Magistrate Nayanananda Aluthgamage who held the
magisterial inquiry at the scene ordered a post mortem examination and
directed police to conduct investigations and arrest the suspects
involved in dumping the body in the sewer. The post mortem was due to be
held yesterday. Earlier too a body of an infant was found near the
maternity ward of the hospital believed to have been thrown away through
a window.
