The rains experienced in November and December have damaged vegetable cultivations, according to cultivators.

They said the crops have been affected due to the downpour in addition to the thick frost. The thick frost is not only experienced in the hill country but all over the island, according to the regular vehicle drivers operating from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya.

They said for the first time they had experienced such thick mist and the entire routes appear to be the same. They said that there is a complete change in the atmosphere and weather patterns.

According to leading planters, the tea harvest have dropped considerably, and the work force were facing economic difficulties.
