Accepting gratification:

Disciplinary inquiry awaits Councillors

A proposal to expel three Provincial Councillors who obtained gratification from unemployed youth by promising employment in the Health Ministry from their respective Provincial Councils was to be forwarded to the SLFP Central Committee by Health Minister and Party General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

The Ministry has identified the three UPFA Provincial Councillors and youth who credited money to the three Provincial Councillors' bank accounts.

Two youth have credited Rs 150,000 each after the Provincial Councillors demanded money to grant permanent employment in the health Ministry as sanitary labourers.

Another youth has credited Rs 75,000 to a bank account of a Provincial Councillor seeking employment in the Ministry.

Their membership to the respective Provincial Councils would be stripped after a disciplinary inquiry conducted by the SLFP Central Committee.

According to a Health Ministry spokesman, the Ministry has already received the copies of the receipts by which these youth have credited money to the Provincial Councillors.
