The Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) is to carry out a three-
day training program for 50 badminton coaches from each district from
December 10 to 12 at the SLBA headquarters at Maitland Place, Colombo 7.
This program is named as Badminton from Village to Country (Gamen
Ratata Badminton) is a novel concept introduced by the SLBA President
Roshan Gunawardene.
Accommodation, food and stationery will be provided by SLBA for the
participants.
The SLBA hopes to select coaches from ten districts on the basis of
their performance. They will be enlisted to the SLBA's list of
registered coaches. Accordingly they will be guided to set up training
pools in relevant districts to carry out training sessions to players in
remote areas. The selected coaches will also be given an initial monthly
allowance with other benefits on their working performance and
efficiency.
Roshan Gunawardene told Daily Newsthat players who excel in those
pools would get equipment as well. These measures have been taken to
motivate badminton trainers and players to reach the national level and
even higher.
Theoritical and practical training on training methodology, fitness,
sports law, nutrition, first aid and medical treatment regarding the
sport will be dealt during the training program with the assistance of
the national level trainers and umpires.
