Sri Lanka challenging globalisation
Priyanka KURUGALA
National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudeva
Nanayakkara said Sri Lanka was severely subject to globalization for the
past 30 years.
The country has started freeing from the influence of globalization
after Mahinda Rajapaksa became the President in 2005.
He was addressing a press conference at the Nippon Hotel yesterday.
The 4th anniversary of the Democratic Left Front will be held at the
Maharagama Youth Centre on December 19 and 20.
He said Sri Lanka has faced globalization with difficulties since
1978. It is an urgent need of the country to rescue itself from this, he
said. Building peace, nationality, identity are key areas in challenging
globalization.
Everyone should support the Government to achieve these goals. This
is the hour of the people. This is not the hour of socialism. Socialism
is a future goal, he said.
Priority should be given to a multi linguistic society. These
objectives are smiler to those of the Democratic Left Front, he said.
Prices of goods can be brought down by giving a food quota to low income
sector, increasing productivity in agriculture and making employment
opportunities, he said. Democratic Left Front Senior Members G B D
Thilakasiri, Nath Gamage, S Mohan, W A D Wimalaratna also participated.
