Sri Pada season begins Dec 20:

Measures to accommodate pilgrims

The annual Sri Pada Season begins on December 20 on Unduwap Full Moon Day and the Government Agent for Nuwara Eliya District and Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretary are taking all measures to give better facilities to Sri Pada pilgrims.

As it has been raining continuously in Hatton area, the footpath from Nallathanniya to the Maluwa, is covered with leaves and bushes.

The Local Authorities have hired workers to clear the footpath and the work is going on.

Usually the statues and relics of the Buddha were brought to the Maluwa on the Full Moon Day itself. But this time due to rain those statues may be brought earlier to the Maluwa, it is expected.

High protection will be provided to pilgrims this year and police have assured that they would prevent any pilgrims from bringing liquor to the sacred area. arrangements are also being made to park private vehicles separately.
