Sri Lankan universities should promote a research culture within the university system to assist the country's development process.

The ninth Annual Research Session (ARS) of the Eastern University of Sri Lanka is a platform to reach that target, ARS Coordinator Dr K Rajendram told the Daily News. Research findings are important for the development process of the country. Local universities are doing less researches compared with foreign universities.

During last three decades, Sri Lanka is in development process lagged because of the war.

Now we are thinking how to develop the country, this conference will address several important disciplines such as conflict, peace and development, human values and social issues, and natural resources and sustainable development, he said.

The conference with a theme Towards Post-war Development, will be held from December 17 to 18 at the University Auditorium in Chenkalady. At the conference about 100 research papers will be presented under 10 tracks.
