Audacity makes nation proud

The people as a nation can be proud of the bold stand taken by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in visiting London without coming down to protest campaigns held by organizations faithful to the LTTE, said Senior Minister for International Monetary Co-operation Dr Sarath Amunugama. The President's visit was a slap-in-the face of LTTE sympathies abroad, he said.

The Minister was addressing the gathering at a ceremony held at the Hataraliyadda T B Ilangaratne National School to mark the awarding of prizes and certificates to students in the Katugastota Education Zone who excelled in the Grade Five Scholarship Examination and the teachers who had assisted them in their studies. Dr Amunugama said Sri Lanka is the only country which had eradicated terrorism in its territory.

Certain countries in the western world jealous about this accomplishment were inciting various vilification campaigns against Sri Lanka.

The Minister said that next to defence the Government had made the biggest allocation of Budgetary funds to Education and Health.

"children should try to profit by it and shine in the field of education," he said

Katugastota Zonal Education Director Leena Perera and several officers also spoke.
