Discarded politicos attempting to revive terrorism - Media Minister
It is the national responsibility of Sri Lankans to work in unison to
defeat the national and international forces which attempt to revive
internationally the terrorists who were vanquished from the motherland,
Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.
Participating at the Subharathi discussion program conducted by the
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Minister Rambukwella said that the
people of this country have given adequate strength to this government
to work against the local and international forces who attempt to betray
the freedom gained thorugh sacrifice of life and limb of our Forces.
He said that statements being made by Opposition politicians,
rejected and discarded to the dustbin by the people, should be condemned
vehemently.
The Minister said that the cancellation of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa’s proposed address to the Oxford Union manifested the double
standards being adopted by Britain which speak of five star democracy
and much about freedom of speech.
He said the recent statement made by the United National Party Deputy
Leader also exposed his double standard to the whole country.
The Minister emphasised that these unpatriotic anti-national elements
are attempting to substantiate the myth that has been created, betraying
the Security Forces, through the malicious white-flag story to portray
Sri Lanka as a country that has committed war-crimes.
He said that these vicious anti-national unpatriotic elements are
demeaning the value of our epic victory and attempting to retard and
hinder future development of the country.
Minister Rambukwella said that he considers the statement made by
Karu Jayasuriya to a weekend English Newspaper as the pinnacle of his
treachery to the people of this country. He said that this is not a
problem of green or blue politics, but one that directly affects the
future progress of this country and hence that it is the responsibility
of the people to rally round in unison to hound up the forces that work
against the nation.
Responding to a question raised by a listener, the Minister reminded
that all Parliamentarians as well as media personnel are committed to
safeguard the unitary status of the country. He emphasized that the
government will do everything possible, through diplomatic channels to
face any issue that may arise in the international arena.
He said political parties with western and capitalist outlook and
resentful of a simple patriotic villager holding the reins of this
country are making every attempt to defeat President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
when people of this country has proved by re-electing him with 1.8
million of majority victory that no internal or international vicious
force could defeat him.
