Forty undergrads suspended

The Sri Jayewardenepura University administration has suspended 40
undergraduates for alleged indecent behaviour and entering the
University premises in an unauthorized manner.
Vice Chancellor Dr N M A Karunaratne said the suspension was
effective from December 1 until further notice.
Legal action will also be taken against these students in the future,
he said. The undergraduates are alleged to have entered the University
forcibly damaging the University main gate and plotting against the
Government and the Education Minister. They had publicly protested
against the Education Minister and damaged the University property, he
said.
Among the suspended undergraduates were several Buddhist monks. |
